Trim Levels
Ford refreshed the Escape's exterior and revamped the trim lineup for the 2023 model year. The SUV is now available in five trims: Base, Active, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, and ST-Line Elite. The new ST-Line models have a sportier appearance flanked by a bold grille and spoiler.
Engine
Under the 2023 Ford Escape's hood, you'll find one of two powerful engines. The base 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine produces 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. The available 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine cranks out 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard with the base engine, with all-wheel drive an available option. The upgraded engine comes standard with all-wheel drive.
Performance
Compared to other vehicles in its class, the 2023 For Escape achieves solid gas mileage. Expect to get an EPA-estimated 27 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway with the base engine and front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive models with this engine get 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Those with the available engine achieve 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Also, when properly equipped, the SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
Interior
Seating five people comfortably, the 2023 Ford Escape offers plenty of space for travelers in both rows. Second-row seats also slide, giving you more room for passengers or cargo. The SUV has one of its class's most spacious cargo areas, with 37.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 65.4 cubic feet when you fold those seats down.
The Escape's infotainment system works well, with the standard 8.0-inch and available 12.3-inch touchscreen display providing crisp graphics and a simple interface. Other standard features include a Wi-Fi hotspot, two USB ports, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Upper trims include options such as wireless smartphone charging, voice recognition, navigation, and additional USB ports.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Ford Escape comes with almost a dozen standard safety features, many of which are part of the Co-Pilot360 driver-assistance suite. These features include blind-spot monitoring, pedestrian detection, driver-attention monitoring, and forward automatic emergency braking. It also has the Ford MyKey system, which lets you set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers.
The SUV includes two complete sets of LATCH connectors located in the rear outboard seats. You'll also find a tether anchor in the rear middle seat, and you can use lower anchors from either of the rear outboard seats.
